So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. – Galatians 5:16
So now we have received the Holy Spirit Who is a seal of God’s promise, He leads and guides our lives now so we ought to hear Him out and be watchful to do what He says. Otherwise we should not be big on talk as Christians because we wouldn’t have yet obeyed the Spirit. As a little girl growing up under my mother and father, keeping their instructions was key to both their and my happiness. They would give an instruction and until I have done what they had instructed there was nothing they would entertain from me. As converts we sometimes complain about many things and this discontentment is caused by disobedience. The Bible tells us, you have received the Spirit of God in you, walk now by the Spirit so as to not gratify the desires of the sinful nature, we hear it, we don’t do it, but we come to present other issues before God, having neglected the instruction that would have satisfied ours and God’s heart.
These days in the Christian-dom it is as if believers want to receive Christ without consequence. They say they are born again, but live exactly the way they used to before they were saved. If you are saved but still live as unsaved, what have you been saved from? The Bible says we have been redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to us by our ancestors. Meaning there can be nothing fruitful about the way we were before we received Christ, it means everything we came into Christ with cannot produce Christ-likeness otherwise we would have come in Christ-like. Everything is to be discarded, the old man has died, the new man must now come to light. But we cling on so tight to the old nature, and it always yields much of the same and then we complain that we don’t see what Christianity is doing for us, and doubtless no one close to us will be moved by our so called conversion.
A child of God is not a lousy person, the Bible does not produce lousy Christians. If you say you are saved, and you are in a living Church hearing the unadulterated truth of the Gospel of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ but are still living like a heathen, you are a lousy Christian. If you are still controlled by your emotions, uncommitted to the things that pertain to the Kingdom and the Church the Spirit of God has committed you to, if you are still prone to taking offense, if you are moved by fads, still making excuses for sin, if you are still found in the same circles you used to move in, you guessed it, you are in danger of being a very lousy Christian. A Christian is a person of the Spirit, they feed their Spirit man and crucify the flesh and its desires. With man being totally transformed is impossible, but with God all things are possible. It is not by might nor by power, but by the Spirit of God.a
