Then, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom – Matthew 27:51.
Immediately the Lord cried out with a loud voice and yielded up the ghost, God tore the veil to the Holy of Holies in the temple, thereby signifying that His presence was now open to the people and not just to the High Priest as before. Oh my God this is very amazing! It’s God Himself who tore the veil. He must have been yearning terribly to have a relationship and communion with the people as He had before with Adam, Enoch, Abraham, etc. He didn’t want to relate and communicate with His people through the High Priest anymore, but longed to have real interface with them.
You see how eager God is to relate, fellowship and commune with us, that immediately after Jesus had given up His spirit He rent the veil that separated Him from us, and us from Him. There’s now no mediator between God and man, except Jesus our Lord. This is cause for great unending celebration. God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit is looking for me just as I am to relate and talk with. Wow, what kind of grace is this? God has joined Himself to His people as one with them forever. Goosebumps!
