“Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift all of you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.” – Luke 22:31-32
Most of the time when there is mention of satan in the Word he is trying to bring down and destroy someone. 1 Peter 5:8 says he prowls around like a lion seeking whom he may devour. He is in the business of killing and destroying God’s creation. In another place the Bible says there is more joy in heaven over one lost sinner who repents and returns to God than over ninety-nine others who are righteous and haven’t strayed away! (Luke 15:7). It can’t be clearer that in the spirit the war is raging, the darkness seeks to destroy and the kingdom of God to save.
The Bible tells us to be sober and vigilant in our living. We cannot afford to be indifferent, comfortable and passive. We need to watch and pray, we need to be intentional. We need to be bold and courageous, steadfast and unshakeable. Look, the outcome is already determined, if we are in Christ we win, there is no changing that. That’s why we cannot be discouraged, we cannot give up, we cannot allow the enemy to deceive and lie to us. We must believe the Word and carry it within us.
The Lord told Peter, Simon has asked for you, and as it turns out, like with Job the Lord did not refuse with Simon. But take note he says “when you have turned back”, so satan asks for Simon the Lord doesn’t refuse but knows that Simon will be tripped up by all of this and yet tells him, that Simon you will find your way back. You will overcome, and when you have overcome strengthen the other souls in the hope of Christ’s salvation. The battle is raging but the outcome is decided, if God be for us, none can stand against us!
