Save yourselves from the evil of today’s people – Acts 2:40 EXB.
God’s people in every generation are admonished to save themselves from the ills and evils of the time. Every generation of saints faces peculiar challenges. There’s no better or worse generation to live in. We should hear what the word of God is saying here and consider very solemnly. We are charged to separate ourselves from the godless and to be untouched by their ills. We must not join in, blend in and do what they do. No! On the contrary, we’re to stand out for Jesus, God and the Holy Spirit. We’re Christians, the separated ones. We’ve been set apart. If we take ourselves by an act of the will back to what we’ve been separated, delivered, saved from we deliberately insult the One who saved us and the means by which He did it. We crucify again for ourselves the Son of God, and put Him to an open shame. The implications are far reaching and the consequences dire. James says we must keep ourselves unspotted from the world. Christ has reconciled you “to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight: if ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel”. Don’t move away from Christ and jump back into the world. We’re not to play a harlot with the world.
