For I will be with you as I was with Moses – Joshua 1:5b NLT.
When Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt they were excited and looking forward to a new beginning. Moses had fulfilled the first part of his commission and was determined to see it to completion. He was going to settle in the land God had promised His people. Everyone expected him to also enter the Promised Land. Joshua was in the best position in that he was serving a powerful man of God and was also in the presence of God. Little did he know that he was discipled to be the one to fulfil the mission.
Joshua was faithful and disciplined, and when the opportunity to lead came he was more than ready for the task. He was fully consumed by God and being a disciple that when God gave him the commission he was ready to serve. This would not have happened had he not been a faithful servant to Moses. God even told him to do everything Moses had taught or instructed him. Paul once said, “Imitate me as I imitate Christ” (1 Corinthians 11:1), so that when the set time comes you may not be found wanting. Some people are serving in missions that the Lord might give to them to complete. While serving under anyone always remember you are serving God and not the man.
Abraham received the promise of being the father of many nations yet only had one child. Some of that promise was fulfilled by Jacob who fathered the nation of Israel. You may be serving in a mission or ministry that God may fulfil through you. In the process imitate those that imitate Christ, that your readiness might not be in question. “Just as we fully obeyed Moses, so we will obey you. Only may the LORD your God be with you as He was with Moses.”
