Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go – Joshua 1:9.
This Scripture begins with the Lord asking, “Have I not commanded you?” This means that to be strong and courageous, and not be afraid is a command. The Lord then tells Joshua the reason why, “For the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” Having this knowledge that God is with you wherever you go leaves no room for doubt and fear.
The word of God tells us that fear is a spirit and that it’s not from God (2 Timothy 1:7), we ought to guard ourselves from this spirit because it comes to mess with our faith. God reassured us that when this spirit attacks us, He will strengthen us, help us and uphold us with His righteous right hand (Isaiah 41:10). This reassures me that God knows that sometimes fear might overwhelm us, but through Him we have the victory because He’s given us everything we need in Him.
The word of God is important in our day to day lives, how else would we know what God has commanded us? Or how else will we know what God has already provided for us? Let us be rooted in the word of God, be strong and courageous and mix the word of God with faith, that’s where our victory over fear is.
