The Secret Ingredient

The Secret Ingredient

And she made a vow, saying, “LORD Almighty, if you will only look on your servant’s misery and remember me, and not forget your servant but give her a son, then I will give him to the LORD for all the days of his life, and no razor will ever be used on his head,” 1 Samuel 1:11 NIV.

One thing I love about the things of GOD is that there are spiritual principles that if followed and obeyed will yield an expected end. If you honor God’s principles He will also honor His word. It all started with the best gift of all, GOD offering His own Son as a sacrifice for us. He offered His Son and in return He received all that would call upon His name and who would accept the gift.

Abraham offered his most prized accomplishment (his son) and in return GOD made him the father of nations. Hannah offered all that she held dear to her heart (Samuel) and GOD rewarded her with five more children.

We are meant to offer ourselves to GOD and He has promised that He will provide for all our needs. The Word says seek first the kingdom of GOD and its righteousness and the rest shall be added to you (Matthew 6:33). The offering/sacrifice comes before the reward. Most of us want the reward, and believe we will then offer ourselves afterwards. We want GOD to change His principles to accommodate our selfish motives.

CHRIST offered Himself to GOD first and then He was exalted to a higher place and given a name above every name (Philippians 2:6-11). Even CHRIST himself respected this principle and didn’t try to circumvent it. Since we are predestined to be conformed to His likeness (Romans 8:29) we should do likewise (no servant is greater than his master).

Maybe, just maybe, the ‘salt/spice’ missing in your well prepared meal is the offering and only then will this meal go down nicely. The ‘spice’ is the sacrifice/offering, the secret ingredient is total surrender (Romans 12:1).

We are meant to offer ourselves to GOD first, and then He has promised that He will provide for all our needs
