All these were steadfastly continuing with one accord in prayer, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers – Acts 1: 14 BLB.
Lately GOD has been showing me how He rewards faithfulness above anything else. Christ before He died promised His followers the gift of the Holy Spirit and instructed them to wait for it. For some reason only few actually waited patiently to receive what was promised. It was inconvenient to wait and that’s maybe the reason why some did not wait and in turn did not receive the gift.
Modern day Christians do not have the patience to wait and expect everything to be handed to them on a silver platter. GOD promises something today and a month later we are very irritable and start questioning His faithfulness. The secret in the waiting is what you preoccupy yourself with while waiting. The disciples according to the above Scripture were preoccupied with prayer and fellowship and the gift came as a bonus. Even after the gift their obsession with prayer and fellowship did not change (Acts 2:42-47), because they were completely surrendered to things of the kingdom (they were about their Father’s business – Luke 2:49).
Hebrews 6:12 always challenges me because it shows me that the witnesses before me were faithful and patient, meaning I should also imitate them. It’s those that are inconvenienced and patiently wait that partake in the promises. Those that always come to Wednesday and Friday night meetings and leave very late are the ones that receive the blessings, because they wait on GOD. GOD always rewards faithfulness and the partially committed are the ones that are always frustrated. They can’t self-audit and realize that they are planting few seeds, yet expect a supernatural harvest. It’s amazing how in the world you don’t invest hundred rand every quarter and expect to receive a million rand interest, yet in the things of GOD we want to put in minimal effort but expect to receive maximum returns.
