Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven – Matthew 5:16 KJV.
I think we now live in a world where by being different or unique from others is such a taboo. There are ways of life normalized by the society and everyone is just expected to adapt and live by them. I think it is in these very ways of life, dictated by society at large that Christians lost their identity. The spiritual and physical “normal” can never be the same and I believe it should be cause for concern for us Christians if we live our daily lives by the normalized standards of our society.
It is the duty of the church to stand out, not for prominence’s sake but for the spreading of the gospel, for light in a dark world. GOD says that as Christians we are the light of the world. Generally, what light does is remove darkness, reveal danger and show direction. These are the things that are expected from Christians so that they can influence the world and win it over to GOD. There is no way we can possibly influence the world for GOD if we behave and reason exactly like the people of the world.
We must dare to be different, always. Until you are misunderstood for being proud or thinking that you are better than others, you are probably not doing it right yet. When the world can still understand or relate with you, you are probably not doing it right. To have impact we must be different and dare to make a difference. Our Christianity means nothing if we, just like the rest, are conformed to the normalized standards of our society.
