Pattern your life after Jesus, 1 John 2:6 TLB/MSG
There is a mindset and a lifestyle we must adopt after having received the Holy Spirit. GOD was fully pleased with Christ as a man and His Son on earth. We have since been begotten into sonship through the Holy Spirit in the likeness of Jesus. He is the firstborn of every creature (Colossians 1:15) and firstborn among many brethren (Romans 8:29). Like the man of heaven, so are those who are of heaven, 1 Corinthians 15:48 and that which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit, John 3:6. Just as we are exactly like Jesus through the Holy Spirit, we ought to live like Jesus lived through the Holy Spirit. Jesus gave and left us a pattern of how to please the Father.
Obey the Spirit, Ezekiel 36:26-27 NLT
GOD has effectively removed the old man, the old nature that causes us to sin, and in its place has given us a new nature and a humble, submissive and teachable spirit. Furthermore, He has given us the Holy Spirit. This is why the Bible calls us new creatures in Christ. Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new (2 Corinthians 5:17). We have been given circumcised hearts, minds and ears – so to speak – in order to hear, obey and follow GOD. Jesus, as our example, was totally obedient to the Father, even to the point of death. Now it was precisely because He was totally obedient to GOD that He was totally dependent on Him. This is why the Scripture says, “And even though Jesus was God’s Son, he had to learn from experience what it was like to obey when obeying meant suffering. It was after he had proved himself perfect in this experience that Jesus became the Giver of eternal salvation to all those who obey him,” Hebrews 5:8-9 TLB. To all those who obey Him. GOD will not have the disobedient as sons in the manner of His Son, Jesus. Obedience to GOD effectively means death to self. All we have to do to obey Him is to surrender our own will to the Holy Spirit.
Be led by the Spirit, Luke 4:1 KJV
For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God, Romans 8:14. Holy Spirit led Jesus because He is a Son of GOD; similarly He leads you because you too are a son of GOD. Holy Spirit is our Helper from the Father to help us how to obey and live godly and righteously in this world. Our sonship to the Father is dependent very much on the influence and guidance of the Holy Spirit in our everyday life. Holy Spirit led Jesus into the wilderness immediately after His glorious encounter at the Jordan River. He also led Him to suffer and die on the Cross. When Israel was delivered from Egypt, the Spirit immediately led them into the wilderness and would be there for forty years. Thus to be led or guided by the Holy Spirit requires obedience, not understanding. With our understanding, we can neither please nor obey GOD. Those who would please the LORD should desist from trying to figure out what He’s doing from beginning to end.
Judge/Decide by the Spirit, Isaiah 11:2-3 NLT
As Spirit-filled children of GOD we should not walk by sight, but by faith. This means living Spirit-filled lives of faith. We should grow in spirit such that we no longer react to our natural impulses, but respond to the Holy Spirit intimations. If we judge, decide or choose naturally, we have not judged, decided or chosen righteously. Going by the flesh has its own limitations, snares and dangers. Such was the case of Lot, Abraham’s nephew. He walked by sight, by outward appearances. He followed his instincts. On the contrary, Abraham walked by faith, by the leading of the Holy Spirit. GOD does not see things the way we see them, He looks at the heart. This means that He looks deeper than things appear. We can only trust the Spirit to lead and guide us victoriously and successfully in our faith walk.
Taught all things by the Spirit, 1 John 2:20, 27
The Holy Spirit teaches us all things and guides us into all truth. He is faithful to do this when we submit ourselves to Him. We don’t know everything as we ought. The Spirit reveals to us the things of GOD and teaches us wisdom, understanding, knowledge, obedience and fear of GOD. We abide in Christ because we have the Spirit of the LORD who teaches us how to obey and abide in Him. The one who is taught all things by the Holy Spirit will know all things.
Used for miracles, Luke 4:18
When we’re learning to follow the example of life of Jesus, to be obedient to Him and to be led by the Spirit, to judge all things by the Spirit and to be taught by Him, then Holy Spirit will use us for miracles as He did Jesus according to His own will. Just as the Spirit was upon Jesus, anointed and sent Him, He wants to do the same with us. That’s what He has come to do. Christ said greater miracles we’d do because He’s gone back to the Father. Miracles of salvation, deliverance, healing, signs and wonders await the revealing of the sons of GOD. The time is now.
We should grow in spirit such that we no longer react to our natural impulses, but respond to the Holy Spirit intimations
