But Samuel replied: “Does the LORD delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the LORD? To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams – 1 Samuel 15:22 NIV.
God instructed King Saul to completely destroy his enemies and not leave any survivors. He in turn disobeyed and kept some stuff to offer as sacrifice to the LORD. Though his intentions might have seemed noble, his act was rebellion in the eyes of GOD. He was even going to offer the fat of rams – a very pleasing offering in that era.
We sometimes disobey GOD because we think we know Him better that He knows Himself. We decide what to obey and what not to obey. We then offer our sacrifices and worship to Him because we believe that is what He wants from us. The above Scripture made me realize that obeying GOD is more important than my offering or worship. One act of disobedience can nullify months of offerings and sacrifices.
This one act of disobedience and rebellion disqualified King Saul and cost him his crown. What really scares me about this is that even though Saul was chosen as king by GOD, he was also replaced in an instant without his knowledge (he only realized after Samuel told him).
Obedience is more important than sacrifice. GOD is looking for those that will honor Him by their obedience and not those that seek to please Him by their disobedience. Ignorance is not bliss in the things of GOD. May we know this before GOD replaces us with “Davids”. May we never fall out of favor with our Maker because of our disobedience.
GOD is looking for those that will honor Him by their obedience and not those that seek to please Him by their disobedience
