Focus!

Focus!

We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you – 2 Chronicles 20:12b NIV.

Overview

This is a narrative of a report that came to Jehoshaphat, the King of Judah, saying, “A great multitude is coming against you from beyond the sea from Syria.” The King is alarmed, and therefore sets himself to seek to the LORD regarding the situation, confessing with his own mouth that he does not know what to do and therefore his eyes will be on GOD. I do not believe that he necessary did not know what to do; the first response of a King upon hearing of a possible attack would be to get the army ready and prepare for war. I believe he knew what he could possibly do but chose to rather keep his gaze on the LORD and wait to hear what He would say. He chose not to exercise his will but rather to just focus on God with hopes that all else will fall into place.

Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the LORD delivers him out of them all (Psalm 34.19). Our lives, as children of GOD, were never meant to be without affliction, which is something we need to come to terms with. Now that is settled, we can talk about how to keep afloat when we go through afflictions. The only way we can keep afloat is by never focusing on the afflictions but keep our gaze on GOD. What kept Peter afloat while walking on the water was the fact that his gaze was on Jesus, and the minute his gaze shifted from Him, he started to sink.

Some of us have received the greatest prophecies for the year 2020; GOD will really do great things in and through us. It would be foolish of us however to think that we will rise without any resistance. GOD really wants us to rise up, our time is now! The devil however, as always will not go down without a fight. We would do ourselves a great service by remaining sober regardless of the afflictions and just focus on Jesus. This year will require a lot of us to focus, to keep our eyes on the ball, as long as our gaze and focus is fixed on Jesus, we will never sink.
