“For the kingdom of God is not in word but in power” – 1 Corinthians 4:20
People without God in the world are defeated, and so are some Christians. We are devasted by the things we can’t control and in pride we resolve, ‘whatever will be will be’, ‘that’s just life’! ‘c’est la vie’! These expressions could be salvaged if they are surrendered in hope to God! Because God says ‘I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’ (Jeremiah 29:11) He has promised that if we put our trust in Him, we won’t find ourselves throwing our hands in the air whinning ‘c’est la vie’ at the end of our lives!
But we are clouded with self effort, this is why we are struggling to lay hold of the heavenly promise. We have conceded to our human senses for direction and console ourselves with self empowerment slogans in the face of earthly difficulty, and, are thus totally defeated. “The Spirit can make life. Sheer muscle and willpower don’t make anything happen. Every word I’ve spoken to you is a Spirit-word, and so it is life-making. But some of you are resisting, refusing to have any part in this.” (John 6:63 MSG)
“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy.” John 10:10a, riddle me this, when the devil is attacking us on every side and our retort is ‘I choose positivity!’, ‘I am worthy!’, ‘I can do it!’, ‘I have a positive attitude!’, ‘I love myself and self love is the ultimate power!, what are we hoping for? Our adversary is skilled in spiritual law and is laying assault on us just on technicalities in the spiritual realities because we lack understanding. (My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge Hosea 4:6)
It is not only what you say but also where it came from. These self affirmations come from defeat, settling and blind hope. Power is needed to combat the enemy that we are confronted by in actuality. He is wrecking lives and selling lies, we have accepted sickness, premature death, poverty, incompetence and hopelessness in the guise of self affirmations. Words are powerful and you need to know if you are uttering the right ones, because self affirmations are self worship words disguised as encouragement and they close God out and deny Him access to you. Only the Word of God is life giving. Be sober, be vigilant!
