I searched for a man among them who would build up the wall and stand in the gap before Me for the land, so that I would not destroy it; but I found no one – Ezekiel 22:30 ESV.
In the book of Ezekiel 22, an incident is narrated to us about God’s wrath that was about to break through in judgment on the sinful city. The Israelites had disobeyed GOD so much that in His anger He wanted to destroy them. Similar, in Psalm 106:23, “So [God] said He would destroy them—had not Moses, his chosen one, stood in the breach before him to keep his wrath from destroying them.” Moses “stood in the gap” and saved the people of Israel with his petition on their behalf. In standing in the gap, he “stepped between the LORD and the people”. In Exodus 32, Moses begged GOD not to destroy the Israelites.
I do not know about you but to me, the above passages of Scripture show me just how much the world is in need of praying Christians. If the Israelites had a righteous man who was willing to intercede on their behalf and seek God’s mercy, the city of Jerusalem was not going to be destroyed. Christians, we need to awake from our spiritual slumber, the world is crying out for God’s saving hand each and every day and our state of laziness is not helping the cause. I always say that my biggest fear is failing the mandate GOD has given me.
I fear seeing people perish, being destroyed knowing that there is something I could have done to hinder that. Moses begged GOD to save Israel even after they had disobeyed Him. The world is living in total destruction and you cannot tell me that a prayer of a righteous man can’t change this. The responsibility to make the world a better place is ours; GOD has already given us the enabling power. All we have to do is to wake up and assume our positions as the body of Christ. The battle is real yes, but so is our GOD.
