You have been believers so long now that you ought to be teaching others. Instead, you need someone to teach you again the basic things about God’s word. You are like babies who need milk and cannot eat solid food – Hebrews 5:12 NLT.
A newborn baby’s intestines are not fully mature to handle solid food. Breast milk contains all the nutrients the baby requires. For the first six months of life breast milk is more than sufficient to meet all the nutritional requirements. As the baby gets older breast milk alone is not enough. This is when solids are slowly introduced into the diet. If the baby continues to only assimilate breast milk at this stage its development is stunted and affected. Though it may seem like it’s growing its actually not reaching its full potential. If this continues it becomes apparent even to the untrained eye that something is not right. Whether the parents are ready or not nature shows them that assimilation of milk alone is not ideal. Infections that were meant to be minor have potential to be detrimental.
In Christianity when we are born again we also are put to the breast and fed milk for our sustenance. As we grow older the milk alone will not sustain us and we require solids to supplement the milk. The problem comes in when we refuse to supplement this milk with solids. As a result we may feel like we are growing yet the fruits don’t attest to this “growth”. Like those malnourished kids, infections (challenges) that were meant to be mild are now life threatening. Our bodies are not fully mature and we are very frail.
Nature and GOD expect us to grow and put off old childish ways behind us. We are meant to grow up into fully developed and independent individuals that are ready and able to help new infants (we are supposed to be teachers by now – discipleship). We are now meant to be preoccupied with adult problems and not preschool matters. We were liberated to liberate others. We are meant to perpetuate the chain reaction and create other like-minded and mature adults. This all starts with making a decision to grow and putting away childish things. This only happens when we are transformed by the renewing of our minds (Romans 12:2) and putting on the new self that is created in its Creators image and likeness (Ephesians 4:22-24).
We were liberated to liberate others, we are meant to perpetuate the chain reaction and create other like-minded and mature adults
