“The Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” — John 14:26 [NIV]
Teachings on the Holy Spirit to me are the most exciting, ones I always look forward to. I have come to realize that in our generation we rarely get to hear teachings about the person of the Holy Spirit. I find the teachings on the Holy Spirit to be one if not the most crucial as it sets the tone on how a life of a Christian pans out. See, we often hear teachings about Jesus being our Savior and the type of relationship we ought to have with Him. We also hear about GOD as our Father and what He expects from us as Christians. Everyone teaches well on these things and I can safely say, we know very well as Christians what is expected of us. In all of this however, we are hardly told that the relationship that Christ wants to have with us or the mandate that GOD wants us to fulfill all relies on the relationship and the knowledge we have of the Holy Spirit. We have such little understanding of the fact that without the Holy Spirit, we have no connection whatsoever with both GOD our Father and Jesus our Savior.
Jesus introduced the Holy Spirit to His disciples as the revealer of truth. The presence of the Holy Spirit within us enables us to understand and interpret GOD’s Word and statutes. Jesus told His disciples that “when He, the Spirit of Truth, comes, He will guide you into all truth” (John 16: 13). The Holy Spirit is there to reveal to us the whole counsel of GOD whether it may be on issues relating to worship, doctrine, and Christian living. He is the ultimate guide, going before us, leading the way, removing obstructions, giving us understanding, and making all things plain and clear. He leads us in the way in which we should go in all spiritual things. Christianity, bearing fruit, doing the works of GOD is impossible without the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit all in all makes Christianity possible and this is the liberty we need. If we can make right with the Holy Spirit, we can make right with absolutely everything. It is therefore important that we always ask GOD to help us to be sensitive to the work of the Spirit in our lives. To always seek a deeper understanding of who He is and His role in our lives. If we can get that right, even the sky will not be the limit to us.
The Holy Spirit is there to reveal to us the whole counsel of GOD whether it may be on issues relating to worship, doctrine, and Christian living.
