“Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth,”“ – Genesis 1:26
For any child of God, understanding dominion is crucial to our walk with GOD. A lack of understanding in this area could cost us a lot both spiritually and naturally. Dominion is about knowing who we are in Christ, it’s about understanding that in us, through Christ, is the power to lay hold of the promises of God and possess them until the day of Christ. It is understanding that we can do what GOD says we can do, have what GOD says we can have and be what GOD says we can be regardless of what things look like, how they sound or appear to be. The devil’s greatest weapon is deceiving and confusing Christians of their real identity. Instead of us living a life of dominion as we ought, we are instead victimized by our circumstances and situations. Instead of commanding circumstances, we are controlled by them and shrink under hardship.
Jesus Christ modeled dominion throughout His ministry while on earth. The earth and everything in it responded to His every word and that is because He understood who He is in GOD, His identity and His purpose. As Christians however, we seem to be controlled by our situations. We are victims of our circumstances. Before GOD even created man, He had purposed for him to have dominion. In creation, He equipped man with what it takes to overcome the world and that is why the word of God says, “For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith” (1 John 5:4). If you understand the power you have as a child of God, based on the spoken word from Christ Jesus, you will no longer be confused, fret and be fearful or live in doubt or lose your peace of mind no matter what is happening. The world responds to us, our circumstances listen to us, that’s the order of God and not the other way around.
