“When He saw the throngs, He was moved with pity and sympathy for them, because they were bewildered (harassed and distressed and dejected and helpless), like sheep without a shepherd. [Zech. 10:2.]” – Matthew 9:36 AMPC
There’s a parable that Jesus tells about the sheep and the goats in Matthew 25, about how at the end the sheep and the goats will be separated. The sheep are accepted while the goats are rejected. The Bible also has a lot of passages that teach about the shepherd and sheep relationship. In the above Scripture, Jesus is moved by the bewilderment of the people, that He likens it to sheep without a shepherd. It is the same with us today, when we are not led, we are bound to be bewildered. GOD has given us shepherds after His own heart, to feed us with knowledge and true understanding (Jeremiah 3:15). They are the ones we are called to obey and submit under as they keep watch over us and will ultimately give account to GOD for us (Hebrews 13:7).
One of the things that the devil does is to make us despise the ministry and the gifts (Ephesians 4:11) that we’ve been placed under because if we despise and reject them, we can not benefit anything from them. When this happens we do it at our peril. I remember when I first came to the ministry and how everything was just so pure and perfect, offenses went straight over my head because it’s not possible for someone to intentionally offend me in such an environment. Fast forward a few years later, now I’m seeing people’s faults and every other encounter carries an offense. This is the devil at work, it is our duty to see him for what he is and to show him the door.
The devil will do whatever it takes to take you out of where GOD has planted you and one of the ways is to discredit the ministry and the shepherd or leadership. He does this because when you belong to a sheepfold and you are following the shepherd GOD has given you, it’s difficult for Him to harm you. We have a lot of goats who have snuck in among us [the body of Christ] who are there to mislead God’s people, these are not people that we should follow, if we do, sooner or later we will get hurt. Receive the gift of a shepherd today from the LORD, when in doubt ask the Holy Spirit and He will guide you along. It’s a gift from Jesus, the Gift that keeps on giving! Merry Christmas!
