“Think of it this way. If a father dies and leaves an inheritance for his young children, those children are not much better off than slaves until they grow up, even though they actually own everything their father had.” – Galatians 4:1 NLT
I’ve often heard about people talking about having a will and leaving an inheritance for their children, and one of the things most people emphasize is how the child will only have access to the inheritance at the age of 21 or 25. These ages are associated with adulthood or maturity. It’s the same in the spirit, there is a certain level that we have to reach for GOD to consider us to be mature, unfortunately, it’s got nothing to do with our age or how long we’ve been in the faith. This spiritual growth comes through the word of God, we have to give the LORD time and room to speak to us through His Word by His Holy Spirit.
“For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God. Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes, and he is the one to whom we are accountable.” [Hebrews 4:12-13 NLT]. The word of God searches us, gives us sound doctrine, corrects us, sets us straight, and equips us for this life that we have been called into (2 Timothy 3:16). When we refuse the discipline and correction [the hardest to take in], we are refusing that which helps us to grow up.
Let’s be honest, it’s easy to put on our “Christian face” and pull out the “Christian lingo” for when we are meeting fellow believers. It’s easy to put on a show for us to be perceived a certain way, but there is One that we cannot fool and that is GOD. We cannot fake our growth, we just have to agree and cooperate with GOD and let Him root out all the stuff that is not aligned to His righteousness. GOD has an advantage over us in the area of patience, so I personally wouldn’t like to take Him on. Let’s pay attention to what GOD is saying about us and begin to root out carnality and plant seeds of righteousness, so that we may reap a spiritual harvest GOD has for us [Eternal life]. It’s time for us to grow, our inheritance awaits.
When we refuse discipline and correction we are refusing that which helps us to grow up.
