“By doing this they will be storing up real treasure for themselves in heaven – it is the only safe investment for eternity! And they will be living a fruitful Christian life down here as well.” – 1 Timothy 6:19 TLB
There are certain things we are required to do here on earth according to Scripture that we might not have a full grasp of (for now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known, 1 Corinthians 13:12). Our obedience here and now makes deposits for us into our heavenly account and towards the life, we are to live eternally. So knowledge, understanding, and obedience are key (and in all your getting, get understanding, Proverbs 4:7b).
We cannot get our lessons on giving from wolves, charlatans, YouTube bloggers exposing fake Pastors and exposé news segments. We have to get our instructions from the Bible, the Word, and instruction of God. Right now we have the power and freedom to choose to either obey or not but every cause has an effect. Giving is spiritual, it is eternal, it is a character trait of a Kingdom person. If as a Christian you have to think 30 times before you release the tithe and offering you also need to think 30 times before attempting to give “Christian Counsel” to people, because Kingdom things are not a matter of speaking it’s a question of doing. Do a personal study and gather all the giving scriptures you can find and that the Holy Spirit reveals in the Word and ponder over them, meditate and brood over them, it will make for a healthy life-changing exercise. Not everything has to be explained, some things have to be obeyed to be understood.
Give cheerfully: 2 Corinthians 9:7
“So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.” This scripture says if you give because a need has arisen and you are being asked you have failed. We are already acquainted with the needs all around us, why wait to be asked?
Give discreetly: Matthew 6:1-4
“Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be seen by them. Otherwise you have no reward from your Father in heaven. Therefore, when you do a charitable deed, do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory from men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. But when you do a charitable deed, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, that your charitable deed may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly.”
Give in proportion to your desired return: Luke 6:38
“Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.” This is God’s vow and promise, not man’s, I know Christians are so pious that they just want to give but please don’t give them anything in return. You can’t tell GOD how to do things, that’s why this conversation should happen between GOD and His child, not between two people, that’s how we end up making very hypocritical statements.
Give the best: John 3:16
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life”. Be imitators of GOD therefore as dear children. If you sow to the flesh you shall of the flesh reap death, and if you sow to the spirit you shall reap eternal life!
