“Obey your spiritual leaders and recognize their authority, for they keep watch over your soul without resting since they will have to give an account to GOD for their work. So it will benefit you when you make their work a pleasure and not a heavy burden.” – Hebrews 13:17 TPT
GOD, by His divine power, has given us all things that pertain to life and godliness, there is nothing that we lack for us to finish this race victoriously. This also means that we will have no valid excuse to not have served Him faithfully. GOD has appointed shepherds according to His own heart to feed us with knowledge and understanding (Jeremiah 3:15). These shepherds are there to lead us, guide us and they also will give account to GOD for our souls, so GOD has essentially equipped us for success, all we have to do is to play our part.
Everything GOD does carries a purpose of God with the ultimate goal of winning souls for the Kingdom. We, the children of God are the ones GOD uses to achieve this hence He has equipped us with everything that we need for Him to be able to use us. We are only able to be used by Him when we are growing and bearing fruit. We bear fruit by abiding in Him, and while we are abiding, our willingness, responsiveness and diligence become key to the growth that GOD gives us.
I believe part of this growth that GOD gives us has to do with our response and obedience to His Word and also the way we respond to our spiritual leaders. Because GOD looks at the heart, it’s not the outward response that matters but the reverence and attitude of the heart towards the word of God and our spiritual leaders. Growth in the life of a believer is key to our GOD given purpose, so let us use all the tools that GOD has equipped us with and cooperate with GOD for what He has called us for.
