“Asking GOD, the glorious Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, to give you spiritual wisdom and insight so that you might grow in your knowledge of God.” Ephesians 1:17 NLT

“I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which He has called you, the riches of His glorious inheritance in His holy people (Ephesians 1:18 NIV). As a Christian, I remember speaking to other believers about gifts and how we each have specific gifts that we would like to possess. Most always chose healing, miraculous powers, or prophecy. We all wanted one that felt more glamorous and one that would probably make us more “worthy”. I don’t recall ever hearing someone asking for wisdom. According to verse 17 in the above scripture, Paul is emphasizing that wisdom is required so that you may know GOD better/more. His statement makes you realize that wisdom is not an accessory but a requirement to fully thrive in the Kingdom.

It’s the same wisdom that opens your heart to getting a glimpse of the hope to which you have been called, the riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints, and His incomparably great power for us who believe (v19). These riches even though predestined for us are hidden in the Word and wisdom is required to reveal them. Wisdom is like the long-lost map required to discover the treasure hidden in the rain forest. Without it, we cannot effectively navigate the complex walk that is our faith.

“That I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and may share His sufferings, becoming like Him in His death,” (Philippians 3:10 ESV). Paul through the wisdom that He already possessed felt that He hasn’t even scratched the surface of the knowledge of who Christ is. This then means without wisdom you are not even in the vicinity, you are on a different route and its destination isn’t Christ. Wisdom isn’t a “nice to have” but a must-have. Without it what separates you from the people that are still in the world? Every powerful and effective man in the bible possessed it.

“Listen as Wisdom calls out!  Hear as understanding raises her voice! On the hilltop along the road, she takes her stand at the crossroads. By the gates at the entrance to the town, on the road leading in, she cries aloud, “I call to you, to all of you! I raise my voice to all people. You simple people, use good judgment. You, foolish people, show some understanding”Proverbs 8:1-5 NLT. She is like the girl that likes you and yearns to spend time with you, while you like a certain slay queen that will end up hurting you. She is still calling even to this day, and today you are still ignoring her calls. She is still stalking you and even after you have realized that the slay queen is out of your reach, you are still not giving her an audience.

Wisdom isn’t a “nice to have” but a must-have
