“Obey your spiritual leaders and recognize their authority, for they keep watch over your soul without resting since they will have to give an account to GOD for their work. So it will benefit you when you make their work a pleasure and not a heavy burden.” – Hebrews 13:17 TPT
Submission is one of the topics that is not very popular with Christians because it goes against our comforts and our own opinions. The definition of the word submission from Oxford Languages is “the action of accepting or yielding to a superior force or the will or authority of another person”. This is where we get dribbled as believers because we are expected to trust in someone else’s will or authority for our own lives. We are expected to trust and believe that this “person” that GOD has brought us under is leading us according to GOD’s instructions into the will and purpose for our lives.
We are called to live a yielded life led by the Holy Spirit, Holy Spirit leads us to divinely appointed leaders and ministries, by GOD, Himself, that will lead us back to Him. These leaders are tried and tested, appointed and anointed for our benefit. The devil knows this all too well and that’s why he wants us to dishonor and disobey them so that he can frustrate our lives (John 10:10). We see this in the book of Numbers 12 with Miriam and Aaron speaking against Moses who was GOD’s appointed leader. “So they said, “Has the LORD indeed spoken only through Moses? Has He not spoken through us also?” And the LORD heard it.” Numbers 12:2 NKJV.
The writer included that last part for a reason, “And the LORD heard it.”, GOD is everywhere, at all times, He hears everything we say and even think. “I speak with him face to face, Even plainly, and not in dark sayings; And he sees the form of the LORD. Why then were you not afraid To speak against My servant Moses?” So the anger of the LORD was aroused against them, and He departed.” Numbers 12:8-9 NKJV. Everything in the word of God is written for our learning. I believe that God-ordained leadership is divine and when we dishonor or disregard it, it’s as if we were doing it directly to GOD, Himself.
