Ungubani? (Who Are You?)

Ungubani? (Who Are You?)

“And you are Christ’s, and Christ is God’s.” – I Corinthians 3:23 NKJV

During the teaching on Sunday, I was reminded about the movie “Black Panther” and how they would ask each other “Ungubani?” meaning, “Who are you?”. The question would be followed by an introduction in the way of, “I’m so and so, the son of so and so”. Even in real life, in our African cultures, we introduce ourselves by our clan names, not so much so with the current generation. This for me speaks a lot on identity and it is a constant reminder of who we are and what our family name says about us.

“But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;” I Peter 2:9 NKJV. As believers, we ought to know who we are and Whose we are. We need to know what GOD has said and what GOD says about us. In this way, we cannot only know who we truly are but also know how to introduce ourselves and how to walk accordingly.

Now when we know who we are and Whose we are, we will know what rightfully belongs to us. So I ask you, “Ungubani?”. I am a child of God! I am seated with Christ in heavenly places (Ephesians 2:6), I am a co-heir with Christ (Romans 8:17), what Christ owns I own with Him (1 Corinthians 3:21-23). All things are ours, things in the now and in the world to come, things revealed and things yet to be revealed.

Now when we know who we are and Whose we are, we will know what rightfully belongs to us.
