“You have circled this mountain long enough; turn northward” – Deuteronomy 2:3 AMP
“And you shall remember that the Lord your God led you all the way these forty years in the wilderness, to humble you and test you, to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep His commandments or not.” – Deuteronomy 8:2 NKJV
One of the most heavily debated topics in the Christian faith is the one about sin, even within the same church and same denomination. We often have many questions and disagreements about sin and the consequences of it. “Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,” Hebrews 12:1. This tells us that there is a sin that each and every one of us has or an area in our lives that ensnares us and trips us up.
This is the devil’s go-to in order to hinder us from attaining that which Jesus has already attained for us, or to at least keep pulling us back or slowing us down. It means that we need to pay attention and be diligent when it comes to this area for us to overcome. We learned that this thing is found in our hearts (Mark 7:15), and for this reason, we always need to keep our hearts in check (Proverbs 4:23). The heart is the wellspring of life according to the Word of God and we’ve been given the responsibility to guard it above all else.
The two Scriptures above are from the journey of the children of Israel in the wilderness. Deuteronomy 8 verse 2 tells us that GOD led them in the wilderness for 40 years to test them and to reveal what was in their hearts. This led me to conclude that our delays are brought about by things that we harbor in our hearts and that GOD allows the delay so that He may reveal that which is in our hearts. It is when we surrender those things to the Holy Spirit that we make progress, otherwise, we will always be going around the same mountain, forever journeying but never arriving at the promise. GOD, through this message, is calling us to turn northward, to grow and walk in the victory that has already been won for us.
