“You must never let familiarity breed contempt.” – 1 Corinthians 11:26b MSG
One of the things that familiarity does is that it causes one’s heart to become cold, it makes it hard to hear and believe the Word, which eventually leads to unbelief. Jesus couldn’t do miracles in His hometown because of their unbelief (Mark 6:1-6). The enemy knows this very well, this causes a lot of being present but no heart involvement, which will avail nothing and lead to a frustrated Christian walk. Not only that, but we will be the ones who are there to cause divisions, strife and effectively fight against the work of God.
GOD, by His grace and mercy, has called each and every one of us before the foundation of the world, we all have a part to play in His Kingdom. He has given us everything that we need to succeed. We cannot however allow ourselves to be ruled by our own desires because when we are, we make ourselves enemies of GOD. “People who are ruled by their desires think only of themselves. Everyone who is ruled by the Holy Spirit thinks about spiritual things. If our minds are ruled by our desires, we will die. But if our minds are ruled by the Spirit, we will have life and peace. Our desires fight against GOD, because they do not and cannot obey God’s laws. If we follow our desires, we cannot please GOD.”Romans 8:5-8 CEV.
There’s a call for us, once again, to really check our hearts and the motives of our hearts. This is not a message of condemnation but rather one of love, GOD loves us too much to leave us in our mess that will not produce any results. We do however have a responsibility to respond positively to what GOD is saying. We cannot allow ourselves to continue taking for granted, the Church, the servants of GOD, and the things of GOD because when we do, we will only end up being unbelieving believers and tools in the hands of the devil.
We cannot allow ourselves to be ruled by our own desires because when we are, we make ourselves enemies of GOD
