The Calling And The Price

The Calling And The Price

“But someone who does not know, and then does something wrong, will be punished only lightly. When someone has been given much, much will be required in return; and when someone has been entrusted with much, even more will be required.” – Luke 12:48 NLT

The LORD has a plan and a purpose for every single person on this earth. And for some, the plan is for them to be great men and women of power and influence while others are called to support. Whichever role we have been called for, it is GOD who anoints us for the work and the anointing that enables us to fulfill the mandate for which we have been assigned. But given the option, many would choose to be in positions of power and great leadership rather than the positions they deem small or beneath them. But do they ever really unpack or consider the temptations and obstacles that come with being in such a seat? Most probably not. Or if so, they believe they will do better than most.

Through the Jehu teaching, I realized several things about what is required when GOD lifts us up. Number one, the higher one goes, the lower they must be within so that Christ may be the one who rises within them.  “He must become greater; I must become less.” John 3:30 NIV. The enemy strikes at any given moment during our lifetimes. But in some cases he allows men and women to rise to great heights so that when he strikes,  greater will the fall be, and in many cases, he knows that when he destroys a great man, many will fall with him. Only Jesus withstood the temptations of the devil. So should the LORD raise us up to greatness and satan attacks, he should meet with Jesus.

Secondly, we are only but vessels. It is the Holy Spirit who gives us the wisdom, the power, and the grace to be who GOD has called us to be. We can do nothing of our own and should therefore never boast in our own abilities,  because in truth we have none. I believe Jehu realized how much he had betrayed the GOD who had blessed him, and through shame and regret, he began to credit his greatness to himself and to foreign gods. It takes great humility to go back to the Creator in repentance and a contrite heart, and this was something Jehu could not do.

“Beware that you do not forget the Lord your God by failing to keep His commandments and His judgments (precepts) and His statutes which I am commanding you today; Otherwise, you may say in your heart, ‘My power and the strength of my hand made me this wealth.’” Deuteronomy 8:11, 17 AMP. It is not our place to judge or point fingers at those who rose and fell. We ourselves do not yet know how we will be given half the chance to be in positions of influence. But through this warning, we now understand that great power and wealth come from GOD and so it would do us good to draw even closer to Him as we rise. Lest we be consumed and destroyed by the one whose sole purpose is to kill, steal and destroy.

It is not our place to judge or point fingers at those who rose and fell. We ourselves do not yet know how we will be given half the chance to be in positions of influence
