Sunday Message Summary, 6 November 2022
In Judges 6:11-13, Gideon asks the angel of the LORD where the miracles of GOD are if truly He is with them. Gideon had an understanding that if GOD be with us, there ought to be wondrous works. Where the LORD is, His hand is revealed. Gideon was concerned about the GOD of miracles who was not performing and working miracles in his own lifetime. Do we ask ourselves honest questions like Gideon? Do we ask ourselves where the miracles are in our Christianity? As believers in GOD, if we say GOD is with us, where are the supernatural manifestations? In 2 Kings 8:4, the king of Israel begs Gehazi to tell him all the miracles Elisha had done, thus showing interest, curiosity, and desire. Do we even have curiosity, interest, and desire where miracles are concerned? Or are we happy just having knowledge and understanding? The king, knowing everything, knew that there was one thing missing – miracles. If the gifts of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:7-10) are for the church/believers of today, then miracles are for the church/believers of today.
To counter their persecutions, the church in Acts asked the LORD to reveal His power (Acts 4:29-31), because the church wanted there to be distinction between them and their persecutors. If we are going to tell people about the supernatural GOD, we need to present the supernatural. If we are ordinary, and we tell people that we are God’s children, how do we expect them to believe us? Where the hand of the LORD is revealed, there is of necessity miracles revealed, because miracles prove and confirm the Word (Mark 16:20 CEV). Miracles are a physical sign that GOD is with us (Hebrews 2:3-4). When GOD confirms and validates the Word, He makes it credible. Jesus preached, and after preaching He worked out miracles (Acts 10:36-38), in this way giving us an example of how to be children of GOD, how to be used by GOD, and how our churches should be. GOD must validate the Word of His grace by signs and wonders through the hands of those propagating the message of grace (Acts 14:3).
What is the purpose of miracles? Miracles done by the Holy Spirit make GOD famous (Matthew 4:23-25). It was noised abroad the things that Jesus was doing, which caused people to come to Him and bring others to Him. Miracles are creative, instant, and complete, and they glorify GOD (Acts 3:1-9). Miracles not only point people to GOD (Acts 3:10), but they also bring people to GOD (Acts 3:11 – when a lame man was miraculously healed at the Beautiful gate of the temple, he did not want to depart from the presence and anointing). Furthermore, miracles make an opportunity for the preaching of the Gospel (Acts 3:12), and miracles are for soul-winning (Acts 4:40). Miracles are self-evident (Acts 4:14), undeniable, and they are faith-builders/generators (Acts 5:12-16).
Miracles are a physical sign that GOD is with us
