Our Minds vs His Mind? His Will ALWAYS Prevail

“May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to you, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer” – Psalm 19:14 NLT

One of the guys that I studied with in varsity was passionate about Orthopedics. That’s all he wanted to do, and he had everything planned out as to how he was going to achieve his ultimate dream of being an Orthopedic Surgeon. After our internships, we went our separate ways and he relocated back to KZN. He got married and had two kids. He then spent about five years specializing, and he later qualified as an Orthopedic Surgeon. You must understand, that specializing requires huge sacrifice, especially when you have a family. You can go for days without seeing your loved ones because of the hectic hours and calls. After qualifying, he decided that he wanted to super-specialize and moved to Cape Town, leaving his family for a year to achieve this.

As a super-specialist you make millions, and it makes sense why he chose this route. I’m assuming that him and his wife had a plan and they knew that the sacrifice would be worth the suffering that they were enduring. He got his certificate and went back home to start making up for lost time. It was time to reap the rewards of all that hard work and sacrifice. Apparently, he worked very hard and long hours. One day after spending hours operating, in the early hours, while driving home they think he fell asleep behind the wheel and had a head on collision with a taxi. He unfortunately died from the impact. He died less than 6 months after being a super-specialist, leaving behind his wife and two kids.

The world teaches you that you have to work very hard to be successful and prosperous, and that your success is fully under your control. Some even believe that if you speak positive thoughts, the universe will bless you. The Bible teaches differently, as we know, that it’s GOD’s blessings that bring about prosperity. “The blessing of the LORD makes a person rich, and He adds no sorrow with it” Proverbs 10:22. For us to operate and to be efficient in the Kingdom we have to unlearn everything that the world has taught us. This can only happen when we feed our hearts and minds with the Word of GOD. “Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of GOD” (Romans 10:17).

“We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of GOD, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ” 2 Corinthians 10:5 NIV. We have to be ruthless when it comes to what we allow our minds and hearts to entertain. We have to be very intentional, and everything that goes against what the Word says, we have to discard. Our prosperity and movement in the Spirit is related to what we believe and accept. This starts with transforming and renewing our minds. We need to renew our approach to prosperity, as failure to do so will result in us believing our breakthroughs are determined by how much we work. My late colleague believed that he needed to sacrifice his time and dedicate his years to achieving qualifications that would guarantee his success. I fail to believe that GOD would have allowed him to spend all that time specializing, and then dying within a year of completing his studies. This is what the above Scripture means by GOD’s blessing not adding sorrow (Proverbs 10:22).

This is why hearing from GOD is very crucial, and why we need to seek the mind of GOD concerning our future plans. You may just be on a trajectory that GOD has not destined for you. We need to humble ourselves and understand that at the end of the day, His plans will prevail (Proverbs 19:21). It’s only when we engage His Word that we understand His mind concerning our life. When we understand this, the transformation is inevitable because self is no longer in charge, and it all starts with the mind.
