Sunday Message Summary, 17 September 2023
The Church and Christians of today are a far cry from the Gospel that was preached by the Apostles of old. Today we want what we want, when we want, and how we want. In the midst of this, the ministry that is most under attack is the fatherly ministry. This is the ministry that centres us, so it is the ministry that the devil hates most. The modern, lukewarm, and dilute Church are a people that reject fathers in the LORD, who are hard of hearing, and always want to do their own thing (Matthew 11:13-19 NKJV).
GOD is a Father, and the father-son relationship is the heart of GOD. This is what the Church is all about. This father-child relationship is the relationship in the Church between the pastor and the Church and it is premised on love (1 Corinthians 4:14-17 NKJV). Therefore, this relationship has no ulterior motives, hidden agendas, manipulation, nor control. It is concerned about building and establishing us in Christ. The responsibility of being a father over a person is a calling, and not many have the grace to father another. It takes a special grace and anointing to father someone. It is a calling that is necessary to turn us back from sin, leading us to love and to serving the LORD (Luke 1:15-17 NKJV). The joy of fathers is in us being right with GOD.
Without divine training, GOD can neither use nor entrust us. To train us, GOD uses human beings, and this training produces in us a character that is necessary for us to relate with Him and for Him to use us (Hebrews 12:5-8 NKJV). Fathers are vessels GOD uses to train, correct, rebuke, and discipline us. Fathers are also God’s tool to break the rebellion and waywardness in us. Training doesn’t happen overnight, but it takes time. It is not the amount of time we spend in training, but it is what happens to us during that time that matters.
The father-son relationship is the heart of GOD.
