”For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which GOD prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.“ – Ephesians‬ ‭2‬:‭10‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

”You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.“ – Psalms‬ ‭139‬:‭16‬ ‭NLT‬‬

In the second chapter of the Gospel of Luke, we read about a man of GOD by the name of Simeon. ”Now there was a man in Jerusalem named Simeon, who was righteous and devout. He was waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. The Holy Spirit had revealed to him that he would not see death before he had seen the LORD’s Christ. Led by the Spirit, he went into the temple courts. And when the parents brought in the child Jesus to do for Him what was customary under the Law, Simeon took Him in his arms and blessed GOD, saying: “Sovereign LORD, as You have promised, You now dismiss Your servant in peace. For my eyes have seen Your salvation,“ Luke‬ ‭2‬:‭25‬-‭30‬ ‭BSB‬‬.

The Word does not tell us anything else about him or his life. The only record of him that we have is that of his purpose and what GOD had called him for. We read that he was a righteous and devout man, in one of the other versions it says that, “he obeyed GOD”. This makes me think that, if the Bible were still being written and we were all characters, the only part of our lives that would be recorded or matter, would be the part that carries the purpose of GOD and ultimately glorifies Him. This also makes me think that it’s possible to busy myself with things that GOD has not called me to do and will ultimately count for nothing.

The other thing that we read about Simeon is that he had a relationship with the Holy Spirit. It was the Holy Spirit who told him that he would not die until he saw the Christ. It was also the Holy Spirit who led him to the place where he would see Jesus. This lets me know that GOD wants to tell us about our purpose and also lead us every step of the way. Everything has been recorded and prepared beforehand, our part is to walk in obedience and allow the Holy Spirit to lead us. When we are rightly positioned and in right relationship with Him, we will not die before we fulfill our purpose. We too, like Simeon, can boldly say, “Sovereign LORD, as You have promised, You now dismiss Your servant in peace”, when we reach the end of our lives.

Everything has been recorded and prepared beforehand, our part is to walk in obedience and allow the Holy Spirit to lead us
