”And so it is in the body of Christ. For though we are many, we’ve all been mingled into one body in Christ. This means that we are all vitally joined to one another, with each contributing to the others. GOD’s marvelous grace imparts to each one of us varying gifts.“ – Romans 12:5-6a TPT.
”For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but think of yourself with sober judgment, according to the measure of faith GOD has given you.“ – Romans 12:3 BSB
When Jesus came to earth, He came to serve and set an example for us on how to do it. From my experience in corporate, it is the subordinate that serves the superior. In the Kingdom, from the example that Jesus left us with, it is the opposite. We see it with how He washed His disciple’s feet (John 13:4-5). We make a mistake when we take how things are done in the world and want to bring them to the Kingdom or the church. We are called to serve the people that we lead, and not lord it over them. Once we grow in this area we are then also able to extend this service to others and even others outside of the church.
”But Jesus called them aside and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their superiors exercise authority over them. It shall not be this way among you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first among you must be your slave— just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.” Matthew 20:25-28 BSB. Greatness in the Kingdom is in serving and putting the needs and comforts of others before our own needs and comforts.
GOD has given all of us grace in our area of calling, and no matter what that area is, it is an area of service. We quickly go off course when we think it is in our own strength and want to be applauded. The glory should always go to GOD because it is His enablement and grace at work through us. When we know this, we will not be tempted to compete with others or seek praise for ourselves. I’m even reminded of a meme that says that some nurses are rough with patients because they were called to be in the army but chose to be nurses. It is the same with us today, when we try to operate outside of our grace, not only will we tire ourselves out but we are also at risk of hurting others.
