”In the beginning [before all time] was the Word (Christ), and the Word was with GOD, and the Word was GOD Himself.“ – John 1:1 AMP
”for you have been born again [that is, reborn from above—spiritually transformed, renewed, and set apart for His purpose] not of seed which is perishable but [from that which is] imperishable and immortal, that is, through the living and everlasting Word of GOD.“ – 1 Peter 1:23 AMP
Whenever we open the Bible and engage the Word of GOD, we should ask ourselves what our ultimate reason or goal is. Are we looking for the WHAT or are we genuinely seeking for the WHO in the Holy Book? If we are not born again by the Holy Spirit, when we read the Bible, we will not find much more than stories and information that can often be contradictory and confusing to the average mind. This then opens up the Bible to being used to incite all manner of arguments. These can range from “the Bible being written by human beings, not being the Word of GOD, reasons for slavery to several books being left out and edited, etc…” Which all on their own should not matter to believers.
The Word of GOD is our LORD and Saviour Jesus Christ Himself and when we spend time in the Word, we are spending time with Him. This is a spiritual love language between us and our LORD and one of the most sacred ways in which we can get to know Him deeper. The reason we need to be truly born again when we consume the Word is that only The Holy Spirit can reveal WHO the Word is to us. We can then see Jesus revealed from Genesis to Revelation as the entire Bible is about HIM. It’s easy for us to miss out on all the benefits of having Jesus in our lives when we take His Word as just another Word and do not acknowledge how it is living and powerful. The Word is alive because it is a PERSON, And only when we spend time and engage with the PERSON through the Word can we ourselves grow and be blessed by all He has to offer.
The enemy will always attack us when it comes to reading our Bibles because He knows that the more we study and engage with the Word of GOD, the more our eyes open and Jesus is revealed. He does not care who we worship as long as it is not Jesus Christ. “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of GOD.“ Romans 10:17 NKJV.
Faith is by far the most powerful tool in the life of a believer, and if growing in that power is dependent on us being in the Word of GOD, then we should be fully immersed and consumed by the Word. Using the Word as a point of strife and proving points is as good as using a sword as a letter opener or a shovel instead of its full intention and potential.
We have been given EVERYTHING we need to live blessed and GODLY lives. In our life searching, Jesus should ultimately be the only One we are searching for and He can only be found in the Holy Book. “And you will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.“ Jeremiah 29:13 NKJV. He is the One who fights our battles, who provides, protects, heals covers and so much more than we can ever imagine. Our love for Him is based on WHO He is and never on what He can do. And if we truly say we want more of Him, then we can find Him in His Word.
Using the Word as a point of strife and proving points is as good as using a sword as a letter opener or a shovel instead of its full intention and potential
