”So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.“ – John 19:30 NKJV
”[GOD] disarmed the principalities and powers that were ranged against us and made a bold display and public example of them, in triumphing over them in Him and in it [the cross].“ – Colossians 2:15 AMPC
While scrolling on social media, I bumped into a video that was explaining the meaning and translation of the phrase, “It is finished” as uttered by Jesus when He breathed His last breath on the cross. In the video, he explains that the word in Greek is “Tetelestai” and further explains that it has a meaning in 3 different contexts. In the business context, it means that a debt is fully paid. In the judicial context, it means that our sentence has been fully served, and in the military context, it means that a battle has been won.
He then explains what this means for us, for us, it means that our debt of sin is fully paid (business), that the judgment for our sin has been fully served (judicial) and our spiritual war against death, sin, and satan has been completely won (military). Since the devil has been disarmed and defeated, he now feeds on our ignorance. Our ignorance of the Word of GOD and what the Word says about us, who we are, and what was done for us on the cross. ”My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.“ Hosea 4:6a NKJV. We lose battles that have already been won for us because of our lack of knowledge.
”Now these are the gifts Christ gave to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers. Their responsibility is to equip GOD’s people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ.“ Ephesians 4:11-12 NLT. Christ gave us gifts to teach and equip us for this new life (after the cross), may I also add, that this is the reason why the devil makes us despise the leaders that GOD Himself has given us. When we follow those who tell us what our itching ears want to hear, we further cement our defeat. Victory in Christ is in the knowledge of Him and only the ones that He has gifted us with carry the true message.
”But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our LORD Jesus Christ. For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins.“ II Peter 1:5-9 NKJV.
Victory in Christ is in the knowledge of Him and only the ones that He has gifted us with carry the true message
