To Love Him Is to Know Him, And Vice Versa

“The [reverent] fear of the LORD [that is, worshiping Him and regarding Him as truly awesome] is the beginning and the preeminent part of knowledge [its starting point and its essence]; But arrogant fools despise [skillful and godly] wisdom and instruction and self-discipline. [Ps 111:10]” – Proverbs‬ ‭1‬:‭7‬ ‭AMP‬‬

One of the things that many of us Christians have found quite curious and concerning, is how easily the world can disrespect and mock our GOD, whereas they will never publicly say anything negative about other religions and their gods. We denote this to being a sign of fear and respect, but it’s actually not the fear of those gods themselves, but rather the fear of what the followers of these gods will do to them should they mock or gist their religion. It’s essentially the fear of man and his unpredictable and often violent nature when offended at a great scale.

For us Christians, when we give our lives to Christ and receive The Holy Spirit, something deeply divine and inexplicable happens within us. Everything about who we used to be and how we see GOD changes. The reverential fear of The LORD is now founded on love and not just us seeing Him as this great big being who’s ready to strike us any time we make a mistake.

The Holy Spirit pours into our hearts this deep love for GOD, that makes us WANT to love and worship Him. The fear we develop towards Him is not canal, but it’s rather an acknowledgment of His might and greatness. It’s understanding how incredibly magnificent He is and how all-powerful and almighty He is. That there is truly none like Him, and that He is the creator of all that there is, there was, and there ever will be. We suddenly wake up to the realization of our smallness and how insignificant everything and everyone else is as compared to our GOD. He is Jehovah and there will never be any like Him.

The reason the fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom is because it’s in the fearing of GOD that we will not want to do ANYTHING outside of GOD. He is the knowledge, the understanding, and the wisdom we need to make it in this life. Anything we think we are or have, is directly related to how much of HIM we have and know. Life becomes deeply meaningless if its sole purpose is not to know GOD and it’s not to strive to know the One who is at the center of it all.

“Do not go on boasting so very proudly, Do not let arrogance come out of your mouth; For the LORD is a GOD of knowledge, And by Him actions are weighed (examined).” 1 Samuel‬ ‭2‬:‭3‬ ‭AMP‬‬. If we are to boast, it should be only to boast in the LORD. After all, we are nothing without Him and any achievement or accolade acquired outside of HIM is ultimately useless and as dust. As the man of GOD used to often say, even if you succeed in a million things you embark on, as long as they are outside the will of GOD, you have failed.

The fear of the LORD is not wanting to do anything, be anything, or experience anything outside of Jesus. It is our insatiable love for Him that makes us never want to be separated from Him in any form, shape, way, or doing. He is the beginning and the end, the Alpha and the Omega of our existence, and some of us quite prefer it that way, thank you very much.

The fear of the LORD is not wanting to do anything, be anything, or experience anything outside of Jesus.
