The Difference Between Wishing And Hope

The Difference Between Wishing And Hope

“Constantly rejoicing in hope [because of our confidence in Christ], steadfast and patient in distress, devoted to prayer [continually seeking wisdom, guidance, and strength],” – Romans 12:12 AMP

The Hope we have in Christ is not one that says; “I hope I get it” but instead hope in Christ says “Because GOD said I have it, I have it”, it is a principle. Romans 5:5 says hope does not disappoint, this is an absolute, based on the principle of hope, we should and can never be disappointed. The reason we are hopeful in the first place is because of Christ’s (the One who watches over His Word to perform it, Jeremiah 1:12) promise. Hope rejoices in advance because it is not possible to give up when we have a living hope on the inside of us. Not having what you hope for in your possession at the time is the whole point, because if you have it, you are no longer waiting in hope. “For we were saved in this hope, but hope that is seen is not hope; for why does one still hope for what he sees?”, Romans 8:24. It’s a principle, “And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.”, 1 Corinthians 13:13, hope remains forever because every expectation of hope is met in Christ, and the greatest of these is love because remember Romans 5:5, hope doesn’t disappoint “because” the love of God has been poured out into our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us!

Abraham “the father of faith” was revealed to me in this teaching as the “herald of hope”, the “executor of expectation”. The Bible says; “And not being weak in faith, he did not consider his own body, already dead (since he was about a hundred years old), and the deadness of Sarah’s womb. He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God, and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform. And therefore “it was accounted to him for righteousness.”, Romans 4:19-22. Glory to Jesus, this patriarch did not bother about his body, he was convinced that he was getting a baby, and here we understand that there had to be a gap between the promise and the provision otherwise there would be no faith to speak of, and no hope to learn from, hallelujah! Abraham conversed with GOD and expected a baby (the long and short of it), his kind of hope did not bite its nails hoping GOD delivers (the irony), no, his faith is the kind that started to build a baby room and had enough time to change the colour from blue to green because blue is so yesterday! The time in between didn’t dishearten him but was fertile ground for faith and hope to burgeon! And don’t forget this crucial point, it all started with a promise, no promise, no expectation, no need to hope for anything!

Hope rejoices in advance because it is not possible to give up when we have a living hope on the inside of us
