“In fact, the mind-set focused on the flesh fights God’s plan and refuses to submit to his direction, because it cannot!” – Romans 8:7 TPT
If we cannot directly link anything we do here on earth to a Godly purpose, we are living for the world and not for Him. It is easy to spot carnality creeping up on you, craving the things of this life and putting them above the things of the Kingdom. If as believers we were truly obedient to the word of God, we would be dynamic, we would always have Christ on our lips, we would be abounding in the work of ministry, with signs and wonders following, a joy to be led by the leadership gifts given to the body for edification. But instead of being fruitful, we are in constant counseling, we are always heavy, confused, and sad, demanding the attention of our leaders because we are confused by the pull of the flesh. If we were honest, the Word would quickly douse these conflicting desires, but we live in a time where believers find a way to glorify sin and do it instead of upholding the tenets of righteousness and pursuing them.
For children of God who have received the seal of God’s promise, the Holy Spirit, we are never left to ourselves, He is always with us, leading and guiding us. But the Holy Spirit does not make the weighty choices for us, those are still on us. If righteousness were purely by osmosis there’d be no need to admonish believers to walk circumspect. We must take responsibility for our actions in the end.
“For Demas has forsaken me, having loved this present world, and has departed for Thessalonica” 2 Timothy 4:10. If we keep dancing around temptation instead of taking it head-on for what it is, we will end up falling into it. We are living in an age where bad is being reviewed and considered for a description change, and good demonized. The devil wants to trick us into getting comfortable in this world by feeding our flesh, but “if only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied.” 1 Corinthians 15:19 NIV. Disobedience to the Word serves to gratify the here and now, while flesh denial is an investment towards our eternal reward. Do not love the world, it is a blip, it is passing away. Fight the good fight and overcome the flesh by exalting holiness. Choose life, maintain an eternal view of things.
The Holy Spirit does not make the weighty choices for us, those are still on us.
