Sunday Message Summary, 4 July 2021
The Covid-19 pandemic has been devastating families the world over, & many have lost their loved ones, their jobs and livelihood, and some have even lost their homes. Though we might not have directly been impacted, the people around us have been impacted, and we should not be oblivious to their plight. If we are children of GOD, who are led by the Holy Spirit, do we know the time we are in (1 Chronicles 12:32), and do we know exactly what our role is as the church? It is no coincidence that we are Christians in 2021, during the time of the pandemic, because GOD has placed us in this specific time, and we are born for such a time as this.
When Haman sought to kill the Jews (Esther 4), though Esther was a Jew herself, she was living in comfort in the palace, while the rest of the Jews were in distress. Esther, however, was in a position of influence to plead the case of the Jews before the king, but she did not want to be inconvenienced on behalf of her people. This is similar to many Christians today, where in our efforts to help, the moment there is stretching and inconvenience, this is where we pull back. Seeing Esther’s resistance to help, Mordecai informs her that if she is not doing what she is supposed to do in helping the Jews, God will find another vessel to do what she has not done. To whom much is given, much is required. Even the things that we have, and the advantageous position we find ourselves in, GOD has given us these things for such a time as this. What are we doing with what GOD has given us and are we faithful?
There is a time for every activity under the sun (Ecclesiastes 3:1-4), and we were born in this time that God has chosen for us. If GOD has called us to do something, the season is now! Love is shown, not just in what we say, but in what we do. If we truly loved our neighbor, we would be concerned with the plight of the people in our own local church in this time of the Covid-19 pandemic. The needs of the people GOD has placed around us should trouble us. As vessels that GOD has called for this time, what are we doing specifically in aid of others?
