“[For I always pray to] the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, that He may grant you a spirit of wisdom and revelation [of insight into mysteries and secrets] in the [deep and intimate] knowledge of Him, ” – Ephesians 1:17 AMPC
The Church that the Spirit of the Lord leads you to is not the physical place you see with your naked eye. It is a place in the spirit. When coming to Church for service, others walk through the physical door while fewer walk through the spiritual door to enter in. The Church of Jesus Christ is where disciples are made, it is the place ‘for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting’ (Ephesians 4:12-14). The moment the LORD assigns you to a Church “for discipleship” you are an enrolled student. You are there to be taught. It is not possible to have a differing revelation to what has been given to the angel of that Church. The moment you have your own vision and revelation, you are either confused or misplaced (and here only the Holy Spirit can help you know what this means). The Bible says let all things be done decently and in order (1 Corinthians 14:40), we are still in this body of flesh here on earth, we must pursue order otherwise we bring chaos to an orderly Kingdom and thus are operating outside the Kingdom. You join a Church to submit, you join a Church to be equipped, you join a Church to serve, you join a Church to be fed spiritually, that Church will have a headship to which you must submit in order to be a disciple, that’s the order the word of God is talking about.
People think that they have to like their Pastor, but it isn’t about liking them from the get-go, really it’s about knowing who they are. Jesus was without honor in His own country, because they thought they knew Him and the idea of Him being Savior irked them, He was only supposed to be the carpenter’s son, He wasn’t supposed to be the Son of God, they didn’t get that. Until you know a person beyond how you relate to them physically, you don’t know them (2 Corinthians 5:16). Until you know your Church beyond its façade you don’t know your Church. Without knowledge, you are open to any wind of doctrine and delusion, and without revelation, you run the risk of missing your allotment. Discipleship is in the spirit, don’t rush with words, seek to see and understand. Get the basics right, count the cost of where you are being led and be planted, grow some roots and become a pillar in your Church, then we can talk about the Prophet’s and the righteous man’s reward. We need revelation, that is beyond Church going, affiliation, and acceptance by the way. We tend to accept a Church and the leadership because we feel we can vibe with them until we are discomforted and inconvenienced. When you know by revelation who the Church and the Pastor is, whether you like them or not, whether you prefer them or not, then can the course of true discipleship begin.
