“GOD has given me grace to speak a warning about pride. I would ask each of you to be emptied of self-promotion and not create a false image of your importance. Instead, honestly assess your worth by using your GOD-given faith as the standard of measurement, and then you will see your true value with an appropriate self-esteem.” – Romans 12:3 TPT
“But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: “GOD resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” – James 4:6 NKJV
We have all heard it being said that, “Humility is not thinking less of yourself but rather thinking of yourself less.” I believe this quote is speaking in relation to others, that we should value others above ourselves. Just as Jesus humbled Himself even to the point of death, death on a cross, the most humiliating death at the time, for us by the way (Philippians 2:8). We too should put others ahead of ourselves and look out for the interest of others ahead of our own interests and needs.
We hurt and offend each other when we put getting our own way ahead of extending grace to the next person, instead of being patient with them just as the LORD was patient with us. None of us got it right on the first day, we shouldn’t expect others to get it right on their first day either. We should rather be there to pick one another up and encourage each other on this walk. “Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.”
I Corinthians 10:12 NKJV. It is by grace that we stand so none of us can boast, when we do, we display pride and set ourselves up for a fall.
Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. I Corinthians 13:4-7 NKJV. Love consists of many components which we should all ask the Holy Spirit to help us to grow in, because without love we are nothing. Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing.
