“If indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus: that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to GOD, in true righteousness and holiness.” – Ephesians 4:21-24 NKJV
“You will know these people by the way that they live. The things that they do are like their fruit. Grapes do not grow on thorn bushes. Figs do not grow on weeds. Good fruit grows on a tree that is good. Bad fruit grows on a tree that is not good. A good tree cannot make bad fruit. A bad tree cannot make good fruit.” – Matthew 7:16-18 EASY
The Christian life is a progressive life. This is probably why many of us, some time in our lives, experience frustration, because we are meant to be growing and we are not. We’ve even heard it being said that, “Anything that is not growing is dead”. This new life that we’ve been gifted requires intentional growth, discipline and commitment. Dare I say, that when we are not growing in the fruit of the spirit, we are growing in the “fruit of the flesh”. Even if we can try to fool others, we cannot fool GOD, and the fruit will speak for itself.
“After all this time as believers in Jesus, you ought to be teachers. Instead of that, you still need someone to teach you the first lessons about GOD’s message. You have become like babies, who need milk instead of proper food. Anyone who still thinks like a baby does not yet understand GOD’s message about what is right. It is as if they are still drinking only milk. People who have grown up eat proper food. In the same way, people who have been believers for a long time should understand more about GOD’s message. They should have learned about what is good and about what is bad. They should know the difference between those.”
Hebrews 5:12-14 EASY
We are called to a life of growth through the help of the Holy Spirit. It’s impossible for us to have an encounter with the living Christ each and every other day and remain the same. Also, when we refuse to grow, we are taking away the opportunity from others to come to know Jesus through us. Our joy, passion, breakthrough and life is in growing in Christ. We have to grow, we must grow, it is our duty and responsibility to grow. “Keep creating in me a clean heart. Fill me with pure thoughts and holy desires, ready to please you. Let my passion for life be restored, tasting joy in every breakthrough you bring to me. Hold me close to you with a willing spirit that obeys whatever you say.” Psalms 51:10, 12 TPT.
