“Then Elijah said to Ahab, “Go get something to eat and drink, for I hear a mighty rainstorm coming!” – 1 Kings 18:41 NLT

There is a psychiatric condition known as Schizophrenia. This disease has specific symptoms that are common to it, some of these are delusions and hallucinations. Delusions are false beliefs that are not based on reality. Like someone saying they are the Messiah, and they are here to “liberate” the captives. Hallucinations are when you see and hear things that don’t exist. Like someone saying they can hear a voice telling them to do something, but other people in the same room can’t hear the same voice. There are other symptoms but these two are the hallmark of Schizophrenia. It is very difficult to try to convince someone with this condition that what they believe, and what they see and hear are just a figment of their imagination. They believe these things so much that they can be aggressive and hostile to their loved ones who are trying to convince them of the opposite.

Prophet Elijah, by today’s standard and modern medicine, would have been labeled schizophrenic, as he was seeing and hearing things other people didn’t see or hear. In the above Scripture, notice how he says that he can “hear” the sound of rain, he didn’t say there’s rain coming. And when he was praying he kept on telling his servant to go see something that “wasn’t there”. Medically, by today’s standards he had delusions (he hears GOD), and hallucinations (hearing the rain), and he would be involuntarily admitted and forced to drink anti-psychotics in a psychiatric ward. Involuntary admission is done in the best interest of the patient who is presenting a risk to themselves or others and is unable to make an “informed” decision about their care.

“Sing, barren woman, you who never bore a child; burst into song, shout for joy, you who were never in labor; because more are the children of the desolate woman than of her who has a husband,” says the LORD” Isaiah 54:1 NIV. Our faith, to the world, doesn’t make sense sometimes. We believe GOD speaks to us, and He often instructs us to have faith in the seemingly “impossible”. How do you expect a woman who is without a husband and who is barren to sing for joy? How can she have more children than the woman who is with a husband? This, by worldly standards, is delusional and I’m surprised more of us haven’t been involuntarily admitted to psychiatric institutions. Yet a man left his family and everything he knows in the promise that he and his barren and old wife would be parents of multitudes. This must have been illogical, yet we are at present, descendants of this illogical couple and their illogical faith.

“So shall My Word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it” Isaiah 55:11 NKJV. GOD has spoken His Word in our lives and we know that He isn’t man that He would lie. Even though we can see that we are in a desert and there’s no obvious life or breakthrough in sight, we know that He who has promised is faithful. The world and science may think we are delusional and psychotic (at some level they are correct, as there’s nothing tangible we can show them), yet we see what they can’t see. We can see a city where there’s currently a squatter camp. We see victory where defeat seems inevitable. We can hear the sound of a mighty rainstorm when there are clear blue skies. In the physical, we are probably schizophrenic and psychotic, yet in the spiritual realms we can see the foundation of a city whose builder and architect is our GOD (Hebrews 11:10). We are a people who speak things that are not as if they were. We don’t see as the world sees. What we have that the world lacks, is the word of GOD.

“For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of GOD” 1 Corinthians 1:18 NIV. We choose to be blind in the physical yet the inner man has 80/ 20 vision. We see clouds that aren’t formed as yet and speak them into existence. Where others see decaying and dead bones, we see and prophesy life. This is our Schizophrenic faith.

We are a people who speak things that are not as if they were. We don’t see as the world sees. What we have that the world lacks, is the word of GOD
