Possessed by GOD

“But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, GOD’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of GOD, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.” – 1 Peter‬ ‭2‬:‭9‬ ‭NLT‬‬

I was on one of the social media apps last week and saw this Christian poem of a young Christian pouring his heart out to the LORD through poetry. When I opened the comments, all the comments were talking about how he has left the faith and that he’s no longer a Christian. It is always painful seeing people who at some point were on fire for GOD and later on leave the faith. I believe, one of the reasons could be that often, we rush to do things for the LORD before taking the time to actually get to know Him, who we are in Him, and who He says we are in Him.

We find ourselves doing things for Him and in His name but in our own strength. When we know who we are and what we are called to do, it’ll make it easier to serve GOD, but it starts with knowing who and Whose we are, otherwise, we will be tempted to serve for approval rather than from approval. “Even the youths shall faint and be weary, And the young men shall utterly fall, But those who wait on the LORD Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah‬ ‭40‬:‭30‬-‭31‬ ‭NKJV‬‬.

Identity in the spirit is one of the most important things because in order to boldly claim what is yours, you need to know Whose you are and what He says belongs to you. Otherwise, we will always be tempted to perform, thinking that we can work ourselves to what already belongs to us. “And he said to him, ‘Son, you are always with me, and all that I have is yours.” Luke‬ ‭15‬:‭31‬ ‭NKJV‬‬. And unfortunately, no matter how much work we put in, we cannot have what does not rightfully belong to the true children of the Father. We might get wages but not the inheritance, but the offer to be a son still stands (John 1:12). Sadly, this is where a lot of people get stuck and eventually get tired and walk away.

When we know who we are and what we are called to do, it’ll make it easier to serve GOD, but it starts with knowing who and Whose we are
