“The LORD said to Gideon, “You have too many warriors with you. If I let all of you fight the Midianites, the Israelites will boast to me that they saved themselves by their own strength” – Judges 7:2 NLT

Gideon was preparing to fight the Midianites. He had a vast army at his disposal, and I’m sure he fancied his chances for success. But when the LORD saw this vast army, He knew He couldn’t deliver the Midianites into their hands, as they would have attributed their success to their own abilities instead of GOD’s grace and power. So He made Gideon reduce their numbers drastically. At one moment He made twenty-two thousand men leave at once, and they were left with ten thousand. He then later reduced their number to only three hundred. How do you go into battle with only three hundred men? Talk about bringing a knife to a gunfight. Yet with these few men, GOD delivered the Midianites into Gideon’s hands. Can you imagine the anxiety of marching towards a vast army with only three hundred men?

One thing I have learned in my short walk with the LORD is that GOD wants the glory for all He does for us. In every situation we go through, and eventually overcome, He wants the glory for Himself. This is why His power and glory are fully manifested in “impossible” situations that we go through. It’s easy when you are an engineer and you work for a top engineering company to believe that one day you will be rich. But it will take faith and the power of GOD to be an illiterate high school dropout and believe you’ll be prosperous and rich. In the same way, if Jesus had gone to Lazarus as soon as He heard about his ailment and healed him, people would have probably reasoned that he was going to be healed anyway. Yet He waited for four days so that, even the naysayers would have nothing to say. Putrefaction (rotting) occurs from day three, and medically, when Jesus arrived, Lazarus would have started rotting and there would be a foul smell at the tomb. Yet Jesus, on the fourth day, just called him out.

The power of GOD works when the flesh is no longer involved when you have come to the end of yourself and have surrendered everything to His Spirit. It’s when you realize that your own abilities cannot help you, that you put all your hope in GOD. This is when the supernatural takes over, and the seemingly “impossible” situations, not only succumb but crumble and become minor. This is where the power for the impossible manifests. In the same way, Gideon thought he had a fighting chance when his army was vast, yet GOD stripped him of his faith in the numbers and made him rely on Him for his breakthrough. This unfortunately is how the supernatural operates, this is the only way GOD can receive His glory. Our faith in Him and our surrender to His Holy Spirit enables us to operate in the “impossible”. You cannot and will not operate in this realm without the Holy Spirit and an intimate fellowship with Jesus (John 15: 5).

“So he said to me, “This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the LORD Almighty” Zechariah 4:6 NIV. It is not by our own strength or our intellect that mountains move. It is all because of the Treasure that is in us that we are able to overcome and reign. It is all possible because of Him.

The power of GOD works when the flesh is no longer involved when you have come to the end of yourself and have surrendered everything to His Spirit. It’s when you realize that your own abilities cannot help you, that you put all your hope in GOD
