”But first and most importantly seek (aim at, strive after) His kingdom and His righteousness [His way of doing and being right—the attitude and character of GOD], and all these things will be given to you also.“ – Matthew 6:33 AMP
I once shared with the church how when I was growing up, my father required us to spend at least a weekend with him before he helped us with any financial support that we needed. In fact, he made it a rule that he would not assist us with anything over the phone. If we have an issue, we must spend time with him, and at the end of a fruitful and pleasant weekend, only then would he assist. Please note the weekend had to be fruitful. Of course, we all thought this was an unnecessary and somewhat narcissistic exercise and did not see the point of it. One day in a rage I asked him why he keeps doing this to us and he very gently explained that it’s from a place of love. He wants to be with his children and he’s happiest when he knows about us and we know what is also happening with him. There’s no joy in him giving strangers things and he does not want to do things out of obligation. I also began to notice that, with both my parents, the more time I spent with them, the more I received. Not because they were buying me but because it’s easy to spend your resources when you are with someone you love and are spending quality time with. What became the greatest blessing out of all this is that I gained a well of knowledge from them, and even though I was one of the youngest of my siblings, I would tell them stories about our parents that they were not even aware of. So I myself fell more in love with them as people instead of what they could do for me. What I received was far deeper and more priceless in the long run.
The point here is that our relationship with Jesus works the same. We are short-changing ourselves when we base a fruitful relationship on what we can get from GOD instead of knowing Him for all the other attributes that make Him the King of Kings and the LORD of Lords. What is it about HIM ”that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth,“ Philippians 2:10 NKJV. What GOD is this that all of heaven trembles at the mention of His name? And how marvelous is it that His Word says ”But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the LORD, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the LORD.“ II Corinthians 3:18 NKJV. Which then means, that what He does, who He is, and what He can do, we too are able. The more time I spent with my parents, the more like them I realized I was. Imagine what happens when I seek for Christ and spend even more of my time with Him than all these other things that do nothing for me.
We honestly and sincerely have no business losing our minds running after the things of this world when everything we could ever need is wrapped up In Jesus. More often than not, our needs are always miraculously taken care of when we stop focusing on them, but rather keep our eyes on HIM. ”Then [with a deep longing] you will seek Me and require Me [as a vital necessity] and [you will] find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.“Jeremiah 29:13 AMP. Jesus is all we should be seeking and searching for while we are on this earth. All things prosper in Him and eternal life is found in Him and Him alone. Everything else as the Bible says, is vanity of vanities.
More often than not, our needs are always miraculously taken care of when we stop focusing on them, but rather keep our eyes on HIM
