I have always been fascinated by light and darkness. There is a famous saying that says, “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil/darkness, is for good men to do nothing” – Edmund Burke. Science, in a way, agrees with this statement because darkness isn’t a colour, it doesn’t exist on its own. It only exists in the absence of light. Light, on the other hand, is made up of seven colours (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet). These colours, given the right spectrum convergence, produce what we call light.
“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which GOD prepared beforehand that we should walk in them” – Ephesians 2:10 NKJV. We were predestined, before the creation of heaven and earth, to be extraordinary. We were never meant to live a life of mediocrity, on the contrary, we were destined for greatness. This is our factory setting, the opposite in technological terms would be referred to as defective apparatus. In the same way, light is made up of different colours that converge to form it, we also have been equipped with different traits and characteristics best suited to be efficient. We are made in His image and likeness and have been implanted with the Holy Ghost. We have been appointed and anointed to do great exploits. A perfect example of this is Gideon’s commission. He may have thought GOD was still going to impart a special type of anointing for him to deliver his people, but he was told to go in the STRENGTH that he ALREADY has. This proves that GOD will not expect you to achieve something that He hasn’t already equipped you for (Ephesians 2:10, Philippians 4:13).
“For all creation is waiting eagerly for that future day when GOD will reveal who his children really are” – Romans 8:19 NLT. Creation is waiting because it knows that there are those who are capable of intervening on their behalf. We are commanded to arise and shine, commanded to be a light in a depraved and dark world. Our light is the solution to the world’s problems. Darkness only exists because the light that was created to illuminate, has become absent or dormant. Darkness/evil is present because the light that was meant to overshadow it has gone AWOL.
“Darkness as black as night covers all the nations of the earth, but the glory of the LORD rises and appears over you” – Isaiah 60:2 NLT. For GOD’s will to be done on earth as it is in heaven, requires His disciples to walk in the path He has called and created them for, a path that is narrow, a path that leads to life and godliness. This is the path that is guaranteed to defeat the darkness that is in the world.
“All nations will come to your light; mighty kings will come to see your radiance” – Isaiah 60:3 NLT. Like moth to light, the world can only be attracted to our light. Nothing but light will change the world for the better. The apostles stood out from their peers because of their light, and this is why the world knew that they had been with Christ. It’s the light, and not gimmicks and tricks, that will transform and change the world for the better. The only important question is, in my area/sphere of influence, am I illuminating everything and everyone around me, or is the darkness present because the appointed light (me) is absent and dormant? This requires a mind that is sober and capable of honest and raw introspection.
