And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment – Mark 12:30.
The enemy is going for the control center, the mind. The one who controls the mind controls everything. External influences come to impress notions on our being through the mind, to withstand the onslaught the mind needs to be set and fixed on something conclusive otherwise the whole person will waver, causing confusion, mass insecurity and eventual distruction. This is why the Lord will not have us wavering between two opinions, we have to be resolute about something before any clear forward movement can be established.
So the Word of God encourages us to capture our minds and set them on God, intentionally. There are a plethora of ideas about life, but only one can be true. Jesus is the way, the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father except through Him. There can be no truth apart from Christ, so no matter what satan impresses on our conscience, if our mind is made up about Christ the battle is won. Especially because we grow in learning to examine everything in the light of God’s Word.
Satan through varied mediums wants to gain control over the mind. There are intimations for satanic ideals all over pop culture. How do you win the fight while you are also trying to be relevant? You don’t win, you lose. You cannot service worldliness and also be a worshipper of God, one will gain ultimate rulership. We are given the power of the will to decide whom and what we are going to live for. If we can decidedly park everything else and give special attention to what goes on in our minds with the aim of reordering and realigning our thoughts with God, we become invincible. If satan wants your mind your best defence and offensive move is to give it to God, wholly!
