Is The Word Benefiting Us?

Is The Word Benefiting Us?

…but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith, in those who heard it – Hebrews 4:2.

We sometimes sit and listen to the Word with unbelief, looking at the person teaching us like we are lost. Is it because we are digesting the Word or we are lost? Are we connected to the teaching or are we just thinking our own things? The one ministering the Word, gets lost in it because of the revelation they received or continue to receive whilst teaching. On our scripture above the Israelites had the gospel preached to them, but it was not mixed with faith, hence it did not profit them. We need to take time to take stock of our hearts and minds to check if we are connected to or profiting anything from the Word. It is a matter of the heart through faith that we connect.

Gone are those days of going to church to kill time and then continue with our lives as though nothing happened. We cannot just wake up and go to church just to go and listen to the word of God and not benefit from it. The Word was sent for our transformation. We have to let go of ourselves and get in tune with it, as the servant of God is ministering. Have we asked ourselves what would happen if we followed the Word and did as it says?  We have already followed it by waking up and coming to church, but that is not all there is to it. “…not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together…” Hebrews 10:25. Anyone can go to church, the main thing is what we do with what we have gained out of it, is it transforming and liberating us?

We have to act on the Word we heard and let it be of use to us by doing what it says (James 1:22). It has everything we want or need but until we follow what it says we will not enjoy the benefits that God has laid out for us. Every service we get a new revelation and we get equipped, but how many of us have followed that Word? Until we decide to act on what it says, it will remain a revelation and nothing else. God has given us His Word to equip us because He loves us. The word of God is there to transform and change us to the people God intended us to be. When we come to God for a miracle or a blessing, God does not react to our request without looking at the motive. What God responds to is the motive from  a pure heart. If our hearts are pure the Word is able to bear fruit in us. The Word of God is alive, it was sent for our benefit and for us to live by.
