Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life – Proverbs 4:23.
Keeping your heart is to think about what you are thinking about! Jesus saved us into a life and heart change. When He found us we were dead in sin, killed by the things in our hearts. He brought us back to life via an agreement that we would turn away from our fatal lifestyle and take the God way of living that is life leading to life everlasting in Him.
We hereafter simply cannot continue living the way we once lived, thinking the way we used to and doing the things we used to do. Because this is not rocket science, if we do the same things that destroyed us then, we will inevitably die again thereby desecrating Christ’s sacrifice.
Taking care of your heart means that you don’t pretend to not harbor wrong thoughts toward some people. It doesn’t mean pretending to be nice when your heart is contentious. Taking care of your heart neither means confessing the current state of your heart but rather surrendering to Holy Spirit’s leading and allowing Him to transform your heart through the Word. You don’t have to be open to any and everybody about what’s going on inside you because people can’t help you in the same way you can’t help yourself. God is the One who sees and judges the intents of the heart, and only He can totally transform and restore its condition
