Now Samuel did not yet know the LORD: The word of the LORD had not yet been revealed to him – 1 Samuel 3:7 NIV.
Samuel was raised in the house of the Lord. Immediately after he was weaned from breastmilk he lived with Eli. At the time the word of the Lord was rare and there were not many visions. So when God called his name he did not recognise him because His Word and His voice had not yet been revealed to Samuel. This means he was raised in the presence of God yet he did not know him.
My greatest fear in life is to be in the presence of God and yet not recognise His voice; to be surrounded by His glory and yet His nature not revealed to me. Christ said His sheep know His voice (John 10:4) and they don’t recognise the voice of the enemy, He leads and they follow Him. To be led you have to hear, to hear He has to be revealed to you. How is He revealed?
“The LORD continued to appear at Shiloh, and there he revealed himself to Samuel through his word,” 1 Samuel 3:21 NIV. The book of the law must never depart from our mouth so that the Lord may reveal Himself and His nature through it. May we dedicate ourselves to the word so that we may mimic his nature (John 14:23). We already have the translator and the software to achieve this (John 14:26).
To be led you have to hear, to hear He has to be revealed to you
